The University Holds a Series of Cultural Events for International Students during the Winter Vacation

During the winter vacation, the School of International Studies organized a variety of cultural experience activities for over 60 international students who live on campus.

 

As the Chinese New Year approaches, several international students were invited to participate in an activity to send calligraphy couplets to citizens in community. The overseas students learned calligraphy from calligraphers on the spot and experienced Chinese calligraphy culture. The strong atmosphere of the Spring Festival has reduced their homesickness in foreign countries and provided them with a firsthand experience of traditional Chinese culture.

On December 29th, the department organized a New Year Dormitory Decoration Competition. Overseas students pasted Spring Festival couplets, paper-cuts and the word Fu on the doors, windows and walls of their dormitories, and hung Chinese knotting to welcome the arrival of the new year with a new look. Sun Xiangjun, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the school, and his delegation came to the G3 dormitory building to express condolences to the international students who spent holidays on campus. They also inquired in detail about the study and living conditions of the international students during the winter vacation, and advised everyone to arrange their vacation time reasonably to spend a harmonious and warm New Year holiday at school.


On New Year's Eve, the department held a New Year celebration party, where international students sang songs and danced together to welcome the arrival of the New Year of the Rabbit. The international students also tasted the Chinese New Year specialty food - dumplings, and exchanged holiday blessings. The event was filled with a joyful and peaceful festive atmosphere.


In order to enrich campus cultural life, the department also organized a Beauty of BMU/Yantai photography competition for international students, aiming to awaken everyone's awareness of discovering beauty through this photography competition. This competition collected nearly 20 works, which recorded the snow and sea scenery of Yantai as well as decorative lanterns for the New Year.

In order to predict their growth process interwoven with China from the perspective of international students, the department organized a themed essay writing activity entitled Me and China in Five Years/Me and China in Ten Years, and all international students actively signed up to participate. In the end, the work of SUNDUS FAYAZ (Xinyi) in the 2022 autumn batch won the first prize. SHAHID (Haoxuan) in the 2019 autumn batch won the second prize, and ABBAS Tahir and three others in the 2022 autumn batch won the third prize.

 

During the winter vacation, Yantai Daily invited one international student from to participate in the "Foreign anchor's New Year's Eve celebration" activity. The media Jiaodong Online also invited him to participate in the 31st Yellow River Bohai New Area Fishing Lantern Festival, interpreting Chinese New Year's Eve culture from the perspective of international students, which increased a lot of attention and interest.

On January 15th of lunar calendar, two overseas students were invited to participate in the activity themed Celebrating Lantern Festival, Guessing the Riddles in Haixing Community. Six other overseas students were invited to participate in the Lantern Festival activity held at Jiaodong Cultural Square. While experiencing the excellent traditional Chinese culture, they sent holiday blessings to the community.


By conducting a series of cultural experience activities during the winter vacation, international students felt the warmth of the Binzhou Medical University on this cold winter day, truly experiencing the happy and warm Chinese New Year. While enriching their winter vacation life, it also enhances their cross-cultural communication skills.
