School of International Studies, established in June 2013, is in charge of foreign students’ education in Binzhou Medical University (BZMU). The school is composed of 5 management organizations (School Office, Teaching and Research Office, Student Management Office, International Student Management Office, International Student Teaching Office) and 6 teaching and research institutions (Foreign Languages Teaching Department, English Department, Teaching and Research Section of Chinese Language and Culture, Foreign Language Training and Testing Center, Institute of Medical English, Institute of Foreign Languages and Cultures). The school is responsible for all levels of College English teaching of Chinese students as well as the recruitment and education of international undergraduate and postgraduates who mainly major in Clinical Medicine, Medical Imageology, Pharmacy, Nursing, Management, Stomatology, Rehabilitation Therapeutics, Pharmaceutical Engineering, etc. Teaching language (English or Chinese) is determined according to majors and Chinese proficiency of international students. Up to now, the school has enrolled more than 500 undergraduates and postgraduates from more than 30 countries and regions, such as South Korea, Italy, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Ghana, Tanzania and Sierra Leone, etc.
In 2002, BZMU obtained the qualification of international student enrollment as approved by the Education Department of Shandong Province. In 2006, the school began to recruit Traditional Chinese Medicine international students, but studying in one class with Chinese students. In the spring of 2013, international students majoring in Clinical Medicine were recruited and studied in separate classes. BZMU makes comprehensive arrangements for the scale, structure, quality and efficiency of international students’ education, and pays attention to connotation construction. Clinical Medicine ESI ranks 5.878‰ in the world and is selected as the first-class discipline and high-level discipline in Shandong Province. In the Ranking of The Best Soft Disciplines in China, Nursing ranks top 25% and Preclinical Medicine ranks top 50%. BZMU has four affiliated hospitals, which can meet the needs of students’ internship.
The school has more than 410 registered undergraduates and postgraduates in Clinical Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, etc. 136 graduates have returned to their respective countries to work and received high praise.
International students’ apartment building, officially put into use in October 2016, is located on campus. It is well equipped with electric control system, entrance guard system, public area monitoring system, network system, hot water and direct drinking water system, public kitchen and laundry. The accommodation environment is safe and elegant.
The school pays attention to multi-cultural exchanges. Student activities, such as ethnic fashion show, cuisine production, etc., are rich and colorful. Chinese cultural experience, such as ancient poem reading, Beijing Opera, paper cutting, etc., runs through the whole learning process. Thus, BZMU has cultivated a number of friendship envoys who know and love China.
The school attaches great importance to the quality of talent cultivation and has won high praise in the special investigation of medical education for international students conducted by the Ministry of Education and the Education Department of Shandong Province.
