History 

The predecessor of School of Nursing (School of Gerontology) is Beizhen Branch Nursing School of Qingdao Medical College, which was founded in 1979. It was renamed Beizhen Medical College Nursing School in 1981 and Binzhou Medical College Nursing School in 1983. In 1998, the Department of Nursing of Binzhou Medical University was established, and in 2007, the School of Nursing of Binzhou Medical University was established. For more than 40 years, the School has adhered to the aims of Safeguarding Peoples Health, and Nurturing Benevolent, Erudite, Elegant and Dedicated Nursing Talents, and has trained a large number of high-quality applied nursing talents at home and abroad.

 

School Structure 

School of Nursing (School of Gerontology) has six administrative departments including Office, Teaching Office, Science and Technology Office, Student Work Office, Graduate Student Work Office, and Youth

League Committee; and five teaching and research units including Clinical Nursing Teaching and Research Office, Clinical Nursing Teaching and Research Office, Nursing Fundamentals and Humanities Teaching and Research Office, Nursing Experimental Teaching and Skills Training Center, and Institute of Health and Disease Management.

 

Disciplines and Specialties

In 2005, the Nursing major was established as a key discipline of Binzhou Medical University. In 2008, it was rated as the Distinctive Specialty of Shandong Provincial Universities. In 2009, it was approved by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance as the National Distinctive Specialty Construction program. In 2011, it was granted the right to confer a first-level masters degree. In 2014, it has been selected as the key program of the Project of Shandong Province Distinctive Famous University and was listed into the support project for Applied Talents Training. In 2016 and 2018, Nursing, Clinical Medicine and other majors entered the High-level Application-oriented Key Project Construction Majors (Groups) in Shandong Province and Program Matching Industry Project of Education Serving Transformation of Old and New Growth Drivers in Shandong province. In 2019, it was approved as a First-class Undergraduate Major program in Shandong Province. In 2021, it was approved as a National First-class Undergraduate program and the masters degree conferring program. In the same year, the Midwifery major was opened, and the directions of Intensive Care and Nurse Anesthesia were added to the Nursing program. In 2022, the discipline of Nursing entered the top 50% of GDI University Top Disciplines Ranking List, and in 2023, it ranked 36th in the List. In China University Ranking for Nursing 2023 (Applied), the Nursing major of BMU was awarded the 2023 China Six-Star Applied Major, ranking the top among applied majors in China.

 

Teaching Faculty

The school has a strong faculty. There are currently 23 full-time teachers including seven professors and ten associate professors; eight doctors, five doctoral students, and 28 masters tutors; one provincial Excellent Teaching Team, one provincial Teaching Master, one Shandong Province New Era Excellent Science Popularization Worker; three Teaching Masters, two Models of Teachers Morality, two Teaching Masters, and four Young Backbone Teachers at the university level; and over 150 experts and professors from affiliated hospitals and eight visiting professors who are well-known experts in Nursing at home and abroad, forming a faculty team with relatively reasonable academic qualifications and academic structure.

 

Facilities 

The Nursing Skills Training Center has a building area of more than 4,000 square meters, and the total value of its equipment is more than 14 million yuan. In addition to the hospitals affiliated to BMU, there are more than 20 comprehensive hospitals serving as its clinical practice teaching bases outside Shandong Province, such as Beijing Shijitan Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University, The First Affiliated Hospital of Naval Medical University (Changhai Hospital of Shanghai), Qilu Hospital of Shandong University, and Shandong Provincial Hospital.

 

Talents Cultivation

Adhering to the principle of “teaching first, quality first and education-oriented, moral education first, the school actively promotes education and teaching reform, integrates teaching content, improves teaching methods and means, and creates a brand of graduates with the qualities of benevolence, erudition, elegance and dedication, which is highly praised by various employers and the community. The training mode of integrated internship and employment implemented by the school has achieved remarkable results. The employment level and quality of graduates have been continuously improved, and the employment rate has reached over 95% in the past 10 years, of which the employment rate of undergraduate students in hospitals of tertiary level or above has reached more than 85%.

 

Scientific Research 

In recent years, the school has applied for 80 projects at and above the bureau level including two national projects and 20 provincial and ministerial projects, published more than 350 academic papers, of which 130 are indexed by SCI and published in domestic core journals, and won more than 120 awards for achievements at and above the bureau level.

 

International Cooperation 

The school has launched a Nurse Employment Cooperation Program with Academy of Kansai Language School, a Nursing Graduate Training Program with Far East University of the Philippines. It also established friendly cooperative relationship with more than ten foreign universities and medical education institutions, including Emory University of the U.S.A., De Montfort University of the U.K., and Eastern Institute of Technology of New Zealand.
