I. Profile
Molecular Targeting Intelligent Diagnosis and Treatment Technology Innovation Center (in preparation), with Binzhou Medical University taking the lead, and Hefei Institute of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Shandong International Biotechnology Park Co., Ltd. as co-constructers, focuses on the field of medical care, health and intelligent diagnosis, and through multidisciplinary integration and clinical pathological data, actively promotes the industrialization of molecular classification diagnosis, specific disease model construction, intelligent diagnosis and treatment databases and intelligent materials for major diseases such as diabetes, tumors, and metabolic diseases, as well as promoting the transition from traditional in-person diagnosis and treatment to intelligent diagnosis and treatment. The Center intends to establish a leading domestic research and development institution integrating data analysis, target discovery, intelligent diagnosis and treatment strategies, and transformation applications in order to support and lead the development of molecular intelligent diagnosis and treatment in Shandong Province.
II. The Team
This team is in the list of the first batch of “Huang Danian Mode Teaching Teams of National Universities” and “Outstanding Youth Innovation Teams of Universities in Shandong”. The head of the Center, Professor Tian Geng, is a Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions in Shandong Province. There are 106 members in the Innovation Center, including 96 permanent staff. All staff in the center have postgraduate degree or above, including 87 doctors. Among the permanent staff, 66 have senior academic titles, including 38 professors. There are 30 employees with overseas study experience and there are 20 people with the title of Outstanding Talents above the provincial level. The team has conducted system biology and multi-group biomarker data platform construction, new target discovery and molecular marker data integration research for major diseases, high-throughput molecular typing detection technology and application, nano-diagnosis and treatment key technology research molecular target confirmation and clinical translational research.
III. Scientific Achievements
The Innovation Center’s real-time monitoring of living cell signaling pathway platform is at the world's leading level in cell membrane biology research, and its the complex biological sample analysis technology has reached the world's advanced level. The Center has developed quantitative dot western blot analysis (QDB) and other high-throughput protein clinical quantitative detection technology, and has designed and synthesized a variety of nano diagnostic and therapeutic probes. The Center has been approved for 27 projects by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 50 provincial-level projects, and has received a total of more than 55 million yuan in scientific research funding. It has won more than 10 awards such as the Shandong Natural Science Academic Innovation Award, the Shandong Youth Science and Technology Award, the Shandong University Scientific Research Achievement Award, and the Shandong Professional Degree Postgraduate Excellent Practice Achievement Award.
IV. Infrastructure
The laboratory of the Innovation Center covers an area of 5,000 square meters, including 3 research institutes, i.e. Institute of Systems Biology and Bioinformatics, Institute of Medical Imaging Probes, and Institute of Model Animals. There are molecular biology laboratories and cell culture rooms, medical biological sample bank, clinical proteomics laboratory, bioinformatics laboratory, transgenic animal breeding center and other scientific research platforms. There are SPF animal rooms and general environmental animal rooms, which can raise rats, mice, monkeys, dogs, and a variety of experimental animals. The scientific research instruments are worth more than RMB 40 million yuan, including large-scale scientific research instruments such as high-resolution mass spectrometry systems and full internal angle reflection fluorescence microscopes. With approximately 20 million yuan annual investment for the renewal and upgrade of central equipment, there has formed a relatively complete experimental facilities ranging from molecules to cells and the overall research level.
