The Laboratory of New-Type Drug Loading and Releasing Technology and Preparation Engineering (hereinafter referred to as the "Laboratory") takes Binzhou Medical University as the main body of knowledge and technological innovation, and relies on the policies of Shandong Province and Yantai City to build a medical technology innovative service engineering laboratory that integrates technical support, peer service and achievement transformation. The Engineering Laboratory aims to integrate the advantages of human resources of universities and that of the pharmaceutical companies, and provide professional, convenient and centralized technical support and services for product upgrading, technological innovation, new drug research and development, and the transformation of scientific and technological achievements of universities for small and medium-sized pharmaceutical companies. The Engineering Laboratory will focus on major diseases such as cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, tumors, viral infectious diseases, neurodegenerative diseases and diabetes, based on the design and construction of new drug delivery systems, and relying on the latest progress in medicine, pharmacy and biology. It will carry out relevant application research and technology development research around the key common technical issues in the development of new drug formulations and new drug release technologies.
The Team
The Laboratory has a total of 46 team members, including 16 professors, 19 associate professors, 1 young expert with outstanding contributions title granted by Shandong Province, 1 Leading Talent in Taishan industry, 2 young experts of Taishan Scholars, and 1 Double-Hundred Plan for Innovative Talents in Yantai City, 1 youth Innovative Talent Team of universities in Shandong, 1 youth Innovative Science and Technology Plan Team of universities in Shandong. Professor Hongwei, Director of the “Engineering Laboratory”, is a PhD in pharmacy, Shandong Provincial young expert, person in charge of pharmacy, director of Yantai Medical Technology Innovation Service Platform, and advisor for master students. There are four innovation teams under the Engineering Laboratory. The new nano targeted preparation innovation team, with Professor Hongwei as the person in charge, is composed of 11 young scientific research backbones, mainly engaged in the research and development of antibacterial drugs and anti-tumor drug nano-delivery systems. The leader of the sustained and controlled release formulation innovation team is Professor Zhang Guilong, and the team is composed of 9 young academic backbones, mainly engaged in the research and development of oral sustained and controlled release formulations and injection sustained and controlled release formulations. Professor Hou Guige is the leader of the new nanometer antibacterial material R&D and innovation team, and the team is composed of 10 young and middle-aged academic backbones, mainly engaged in the research on electrospinning and self-assembly and other fiber-based medical composite materials. The leader of the mucosal (skin) drug delivery system innovation team is Associate Professor Tian Baocheng, and the team is composed of 8 young and middle-aged academic backbones, mainly engaged in the research and development of new ophthalmic preparations and transdermal preparations. The four teams have a reasonable structure, clear division of labor, and an average age of 36.7 years old, vigorous, solid, diligent, united and progressive.
Academic Achievements
In the past three years, the Engineering Laboratory has undertaken a total of 22 projects, with a cumulative fund of more than 15 million yuan, including 10 national-level projects and 12 provincial-level projects. In recent years, the Engineering Laboratory has mainly conducted the following experimental research topics in the field of new-type drug-loading and drug-releasing technology and formulation research:
1. Research on a new type of nanomedicine targeted drug delivery system. The Engineering Laboratory has followed the laws of the market economy, used its own advantages, and selected nano drug delivery systems with sufficient basic research, clear process routes, and large market capacity to carry out imitation research, secondary development and engineering technology research, so that the project can achieve rapid industrialization, minimized R&D risks and maximized investment benefits.
2. Research on new sustained and controlled release preparations. In the early stage of Engineering Laboratory, PLGA was used as the carrier material to prepare dopamine receptor agonist ROP-PLGA microspheres. This subject mainly studies how to screen and optimize the source of raw materials, preparation processes, and drug-loading prescriptions, in order to increase the content of dopamine receptor agonists in the product and the slow-release effect of drug-loaded microspheres, improve the efficacy, and enable the products to have better market competitiveness.
3. Research on new nano-antibacterial materials. The Engineering Laboratory uses chitosan and silicone as the entry point to overcome the key technologies of quaternization modification compatible with its high antibacterial activity and low cytotoxicity. It is expected to develop two key technologies and a pilot sample of wound repair materials by the end of 2021. After the product is put into production, it is expected to replace imports, fill the domestic gap, and be at an affordable price. It will become the first choice for trauma patients, reduce the patient's high medical expenditure, reduce family and social burdens, and create good social benefits.
Infrastructure
The Engineering Laboratory has five subject research laboratories: Pharmaceutical Preparation Research Laboratory, Drug Synthesis Research Laboratory, Drug Analysis Research Laboratory, Pharmacology and Toxicology Research Laboratory, and Cell Culture Research Laboratory, with complete scientific research and experimental conditions. At present, the laboratory covers an area of 1,400 square meters and has experimental equipment with a total value of more than RMB 50 million yuan, including high-content screening, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance imaging, liquid-mass spectrometry, high-performance liquid chromatography, high-pressure homogenizer, freeze dryer, gas chromatograph, automatic dissolution apparatus, flow cytometer, Living cell workstation, laser confocal microscope, atomic absorption spectrophotometer, dual-wavelength thin-layer chromatography scanner, Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, gel imaging system, automatic microplate reader and other advanced instruments and equipment. From molecules to cells, it is equipped with the basic experimental facilities for overall research can meet the requirements of solid, semi-solid and liquid preparation research and development, and can provide a guarantee for the laboratory to carry out high-level scientific research experiments. At the same time, it has a GMP standard pharmaceutical process (pilot test) laboratory, including three centers, i.e. drug analysis, drug efficacy evaluation and GMP standard process research, which provide a guarantee for the production of pilot products.
