I. Profile

The Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Laboratory (hereinafter referred to as the "Laboratory") was established in March 2009, and approved as Yantai Key Laboratory of Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine in December 2018. The research direction of the Laboratory combines the national and provincial long-term scientific and technological development strategies, aiming at the frontier topics of stem cell and regenerative medicine research at home and abroad, mainly researching relevant key tissues and organs regeneration and repair problems of degenerative diseases and injury diseases (Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, spinal cord injury, skin trauma, oral injury, bone injury, etc.). Based on the research, it explores new treatment methods, develops medical devices and drugs, and provides technology support system and innovation platform for the prevention and treatment of degenerative diseases and traumatic diseases.

 

II. The Team

The Director of the research office and Laboratory is Professor Wang Yuesi, and there are more than 20 researchers, master students and other personnel. While carrying out scientific research, it offers courses on Developmental Biology and Modern Biotechnology for undergraduates majoring in biotechnology and biopharmaceuticals, and teaches Cell Cultivation for postgraduate students.

 

III. Academic Achievements

With its strong hardware and software strength, the laboratory has undertaken a number of projects from National Natural Science Foundation of China, Shandong Natural Science Foundation, and a number of talent projects. It has carried out a number of pioneering work internationally in human placental mesenchymal stem cells and ARDS, hematopoietic stem cells, and skin fibroblast reprogramming into neural stem cell technology and regenerative medicine.

 

IV. Infrustructure

The total area of the Laboratory is about 500 square meters, and there are various clinical treatment research and experimental technology platforms such as fully functional cell culture laboratory, molecular testing laboratory, cell biology laboratory and GMP production workshop. The laboratory now has advanced equipment such as flow cytometer, multifunctional microplate reader, gel imaging system, fluorescence quantitative PCR, fluorescence inverted microscope, high-speed low-temperature refrigerated centrifuge, ultra-low temperature refrigerator, etc., which basically realize the construction of a relatively complete basic scientific research and clinical practice platform for research transformation.

 

The laboratory adheres to the principle of cooperation between government, industry, university and research to achieve win-win development. It adheres to the scientific research concept of being far-sighted and down-to-earth, focusing on cultivating high-quality researchers, stressing research on major scientific issues in stem cells, and exploring possible methods for stem cells to treat various difficult human diseases, in order to strive to make greater contributions to the cause of human health. The laboratory insists on being open to both inside and outside the school, at home and abroad, and makes full use of domestic and foreign scientific and technological resources to improve the level of scientific research and internationalization of the laboratory.
