Research Team Achieving New Results in the Study of Depression

2020-03-17

Recently, the research team of the Institute of Metabolism and Neuropsychiatry of Binzhou Medical University Hospital published the latest research results on the pathogenesis and treatment mechanism of fat-brain axis regulation of depression -Modulation of Depression-related Behaviors by Adiponectin AdipoR1 Receptors in 5-HT Neurons-in Molecular Psychiatry, a sub-Journal of Nature,. The research backbone of the institute, Dr. Li Chen, is the first author and co-corresponding author of this article, and Binzhou Medical University Hospital is the first completion unit.

According to reports, depression is a mental illness with a high incidence, which seriously affects the work and life of patients. Adiponectin is an important adipose factor secreted by adipose tissue. It can enter the brain through blood circulation and act on its receptors to regulate the function of the central nervous system. This article proves for the first time in the world that specific knockout of adiponectin receptor 1 (AdipoR1) in 5-HT neurons can induce depression-like behavioral phenotypes in mice, accompanied by the change of expression levels of key factors in the 5-HT neurotransmitter system and the change of responsiveness to SSRI antidepressant drug fluoxetine, and the effect of knocking out AdipoR1 on male mice is more obvious. This achievement provides a new target for the research and development of drugs for depression, and provides a theoretical and experimental basis for clinical precision medication.
