1. BMU solemnly celebrated the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.
On July 1, 2021, BMU organized party members, teachers and students to watch the live broadcast of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. Mr. Bai Hao, Deputy Director-General of Shandong Provincial Department of Education, awarded commemorative medals to BMU’s staff who celebrated their "Glorious 50 Years as CPC Party Membership". Commendation conference was held in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. Chorus of teachers and students themed "Ode to the Party and Embarkment on New Journey" was held. BMU, making full use of the platforms, such as, "BMU Forum", "Situation Policy Lectures" and others, invited relevant officials, experts and scholars to hold special lectures on the spirit of the "July 1st" important speech by Xi Jinping, the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and promote the integration of “July 1st” important speech spirit into teaching materials, classrooms, and the mind of teachers and students.
2. High-quality education on party history and the spirit of the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee was carried out.
On March 18, 2021, the Party History Learning and Education Mobilization Conference of Binzhou Medical University was held, and the University’s party history learning and education initiative was fully launched. The University party committee, resolutely shouldering the political responsibility in real earnest, had in mind both "the overall strategy for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation" and "the profound changes unseen in a century", cared about the country by "taking the overall situation into consideration and in a strategic and long-term perspective", and anchored on that "we will strive to take the lead in serving and integrating into the new development landscape, in enhancing innovation in economic and social development and in promoting ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin", and regarded the carrying out of party history learning and education as the primary political task throughout the year. Effort would be made in adhering to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, thoroughly studying and implementing the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Fifth and Sixth Plenary Sessions of the 19th Central Committee, the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech at the Party History Learning and Education Mobilization Conference. and the spirit of the important speech on July 1st, implementing the decisions and arrangements of the Central Committee and the Provincial Party Committee, closely focusing on the goals and tasks of the study and education of the Party's history, seeking to improve the overall situation and opening up a new situation, continuing to draw the inexhaustible driving force to promote development from the century-old party history, so as to learn the history to understand the truth, learn the history to increase the trust, learn the history to respect morality, learn the history to apply in practice, learn the party history, understand the ideas, do practical things, and open a new situation for bringing together a strong synergy of BMU’s high-quality development and the high-quality start of the "14th Five-Year Plan". Since November 8, party organizations at all levels and the majority of party members and administrative staff in the University had rapidly rushed to learning, publicized and implemented the spirit of the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and continued to deepen and expand the study and education of party history. BMU’s party history learning and education has been highly appraised by the Provincial Party Committee Touring Steering Group. Relevant practices and achievements have been selected as typical cases on the national party history learning and education official website, have been reported 15 times in the Ministry of Education Party History Learning and Education Briefing and Shandong Province Party History Learning and Educational Work Briefing, and have been reported 71 times by important media such as xuexi.cn, Guangming Daily, China Education Daily, China Youth Daily, Shandong TV News and others, with 1 team winning the national commendation, and 4 people winning the provincial and municipal commendation.
3. BMU’s “14th Five-Year Plan achieved a good start.
In December 2021, BMU’s "14th Five-Year Plan" development plan was issued and implemented. On July 24th, BMU’s "14th Five-Year Plan" development plan was reviewed and approved at the "Congress of Teachers and Students Representatives and Congress of the Trade Union Member Representatives", and the strategic goal of “completing the task of ‘renaming and upgrading to a university’” was established. Effort would be made to actively strive to be approved as a doctoral degree-granting unit, with clarified implementation path such as the high-quality talent training system, the high-level discipline construction system, the high-level scientific and technological innovation system, and the high-quality teacher development system, which pointed out the direction and gathered strength for further improving university operation and accelerating the realization of the "BMU Dream".
In December 2021, the "Letter of Approval for Amendments to the Constitution of Higher Education Institutions of Shandong Provincial Department of Education" (No. 77) approved the "Amendment to the Constitution of Binzhou Medical University", and the newly revised "Constitution of Binzhou Medical University" was released and implemented. A high-level medical university with outstanding advantages and distinctive features achieved a good start.
4. The fifteenth inspection team of the CPC Shandong Provincial Party Committee inspected BMU.
From March 5th to June 5th, 2021, the fifteenth inspection team of the CPC Shandong Provincial Party Committee inspected the party committee of BMU. In response to the feedback from the inspection team of the Provincial Party Committee, the BMU party committee held 16 special meetings to unify the thinking and understanding, strengthen organizational leadership, check each item, analyze the root causes, formulate a work plan, clarify the rectification tasks, and research and formulate list of problems, responsibilities and tasks, strictly carry out supervision and scheduling, continuously improve the working mechanism, continue to improve the institutional system, focus on building a long-term mechanism, formulate and improve 36 systems and 11 special work plans, and focus on building a system that makes up for shortages, solves problems, and is systematically comprehensive, interconnected, and pragmatic, to ensure that every piece of rectification is in place and with actual effect.
5. Building a strong line of defense to protect the health of teachers and students.
The epidemic prevention and control work plan and the vaccine vaccination plan were formulated, and all teachers and students in BMU were involved. More than 20,000 teachers and students completed the vaccination, which ensured the safety of the school and the health of teachers and students. During the summer vacation of 2021, a new round of epidemic occurred in Yantai. The school took active actions. The Yantai Affiliated Hospital selected 2,126 medical staff to complete the nucleic acid testing task for residents in Yantai City. Nucleic acid testing has contributed "BMU Strength" to Yantai to win a new round of victory in epidemic prevention and control.
In September and October 2021, BMU carried out two rounds of special supervision and inspections on potential safety hazards, and solidly carried out the "Six One" activities for students’ safety and mental health education, namely having one special theme class meeting, one heart-to-heart talk, one family visit to targeted students, one parents’ meeting, one class outing, and one pandemic prevention and control knowledge publicity activity, to effectively ensure the safety, stability and harmony of the campus.
6. BMU was selected into the application-oriented undergraduate universities construction supporting plan in Shandong Province
In December 2021, BMU was selected into the second batch of application-oriented undergraduate universities construction support list in Shandong Province, with a duration of 3 years. During the construction period, the provincial finance will provide strong support for the construction of application-oriented undergraduate universities, and will comprehensively speed up the pace of achieving new breakthroughs in high-quality development and building a high-level application-oriented university with outstanding advantages and distinctive characteristics.
In April 2021, the nursing major was approved as a national first-class undergraduate major construction site, achieving a "zero" breakthrough in national first-class majors. 5 first-class undergraduate major construction sites in Shandong Province were approved. There were also achievements such as that 1 national first-class undergraduate course was awarded, 14 provincial first-class courses, 2 "golden courses" in colleges and universities, 2 ideological and political demonstration courses, and 3 first-class textbooks. One of the first batch of new liberal arts research and reform practice projects in the country was approved. 24 projects were approved as national college students’ innovation and entrepreneurship training programs. We have won 1 provincial special prize and 2 first prizes of the "Challenge Cup", 1 national first prize in the College Student Life Science Competition, and 1 second prize in the 5th National College Students Micro-film Exhibition of the Ministry of Education themed as "Ideological and Political Course in My Heart". The Ministry of Education approved 32 projects of the second batch of industry-university cooperation and collaborative education projects. The “New Medical Experimental Class of Academician Zheng Zhiming” was set up, and the 2021 MEBO International Class kicked off smoothly. In 2021, the National Disabled Persons University Entrance Examination was held in BMU. Our student Chen Yujiao won two golds and one silver in the National Paralympic Games.
7. Provincial, municipal and university co-construction acquired new momentum.
In February 2021, Shandong Provincial Department of Education and the People's Government of Binzhou City signed a memorandum of cooperation to jointly build BMU, and the People's Government of Binzhou City and BMU signed an agreement to accelerate the development of the BMU Binzhou Campus. It was the only university in Shandong that established joint cooperation with two cities. The Binzhou Municipal Government has allocated 16.92 million yuan as university funds.
In July, BUM cooperated with Yantai City to establish "Yantai Medical and Health Blockchain Research Center" and "Yantai Biomedical Industry Innovation and Development Research Institute", and signed the task book for jointly building "Yantai Rehabilitation Industry Technology Research Institute". BMU also signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Green Manufacturing Shandong Laboratory and Shandong Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine to carry out all-round strategic cooperation in scientific and technological innovation, industrial transformation, and talent training. Yantai Mountain Hospital and Yantai Stomatological Hospital are being included as the affiliated hospitals of BMU in an orderly manner. Yantai Science and Technology Bureau had invested 10 million yuan, and BMU had invested 19 million yuan to accelerate the construction of the Rehabilitation Engineering Research Institute.
In May and September, Tai'an Clinical School and Jinan Clinical School were established. Rongchang Industrial College was selected into the first batch of Shandong Modern Industrial College construction list. In December, BMU cooperated with Shandong Runzhong Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Jinyu Medical Group, Shanghai Huifeng Dental Technology Co., Ltd. and Huaxinhua Denture Technology Co., Ltd. to build 4 industrial institutes including Traditional Chinese Medicine Industry Institute, Ophthalmology and Optometry Industry Institute, Inspection Industry Institute, and Stomatology Technology Industry Institute.
8. New leaps have been made in discipline construction and scientific research.
In November 2021, the clinical medicine discipline of BMU enter the top 4.775‰ of the global ESI ranking, and the pharmacology and toxicology discipline was selected as the High-level Cultivation Discipline in Shandong Province. Four new professional master's degree authorization categories were added, and postgraduate education conference was held.
In December 2021, one project was approved by the National Natural Science Foundation of China’s original exploration program, filling the gap in BMU’s history. In 2021, the contract funding for higher-level and horizontal scientific research projects (natural science) reached 21.39 million yuan. 20 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China had been approved; 2 projects of foreign experts and talents of the Ministry of Science and Technology had been approved; 58 projects of various categories of the Provincial Natural Science Foundation had been approved. BMU won the title of the top ten scientific and technological innovation leading units in Yantai City, 3 provincial scientific and technological achievement awards in 2021, and 1 second prize of the provincial colleges and universities outstanding scientific research achievement award (ideological and political education category). It set up 6 scientific research platforms such as the Health Blockchain Research Center and 9 discipline teams. The fifth scientific research work meeting was held.
9. Introduction and cultivation of the talent team to speed up the improvement of quality and efficiency.
In July 2021, BMU held the second meeting on the construction of talents and teachers to promote the implementation of the "Five Major Projects" strategy of strengthening the university by talents. BMU recruited 1 full-time academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 2 specially-appointed experts of the National Overseas High-level Talent Introduction Program, and 71 high-level doctors. The respiratory disease teacher team was awarded the second batch of Huang Danian-style teacher teams in Shandong universities. 9 provincial teaching competition awards were won, including 3 first prizes. 10 teachers were graded as moral models, and the second top ten counselors were selected. The team of physical education teachers achieved good results in the 4th Shandong University Physical Education Teachers Basic Skills Competition, showing the expertise and style of BMU’s physical education teachers.
10. BMU infrastructure optimized and upgraded again.
In November 2021, the construction of the stomatology building on Yantai campus started, and the student dormitory building on Hedong area of Yantai campus was put into use. The teaching and research building and student dormitory building on Binzhou campus also started construction. The integrated construction of smart campus was progressing steadily. BMU invested more than 9 million yuan to transform and upgrade Hexi area of Yantai campus and Binzhou campus in the campus dormitory conditions and additional dormitory service facilities, with 14 newly opened student self-study places, equipped with more than 800 sets of desks and chairs. Students’ learning, life satisfaction and happiness had been further improved, and service guarantee capabilities had been significantly enhanced.
In September 2021, Binzhou Affiliated Hospital successfully passed a new round of on-site review of grade A class 3 hospital. In October, the Affiliated Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Binzhou Medical University was inaugurated in Binzhou City. Binzhou Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital was incorporated into the affiliated hospital of BMU and entrusted its management to BMU, creating a good environment for the high-quality development of the University.
In December, the Provincial Health Commission and the Provincial Department of Education re-examined and certified the affiliated hospitals of various universities, and 14 affiliated hospitals of our University were certified.
