The University Holds a Series of Cultural Events for International Students during the Winter Vacation

During the winter vacation in 2022, nearly 100 International Students stayed on campus. In order to enrich their cultural life on campus, the school of International Studies held various cultural events for them.


On the afternoon of January 18, the school organized a first aid knowledge and skills training  activity for international students, which was presided over by Zhao Baomeng, teacher of the 2nd School of Clinical Medicine. Mr. Zhao explained how to implement cardiopulmonary resuscitation and artificial respiration for a patient in critical condition in the prime time of rescue and how to use Heimlich Maneuver to give on-site first aid to a patient with foreign body airway obstruction. Through professional on-site demonstration, practical operation and professional equipment testing, the students improved their theoretical knowledge and practical operation and further enhanced their abilities of self rescue, mutual rescue and emergency rescue.

On January 21, the university held an online lecture on the prevention and control of COVID-19 epidemic among international students. Professor Cao Qizhi from the Immunology Teaching and Research Office of the School of Basic Medicine was invited to give a speech on Immune Response to Novel Coronavirus. Professor Cao described the general process of human immune response to novel coronavirus, and emphasized the importance of vaccination against novel coronavirus and the necessity of relevant domestic pandemic prevention and control policies.


On January 25, the university held a winter vacation emergency drill for international students on campus. Juan Boyong, head of the Logistics Management Department, served as the scene commander. Members of the special task groups, leaders of the School of International Studies, counselors for international students, and international student representatives participated in the drill. The scene was conducted in the background that an international student felt to has a fever in the dormitory. The drill was conducted in strict accordance with the Emergency Drill Plan for the Outbreak of Covid-19 Among International Students in Binzhou Medical University During the Winter Vacation of 2022, covering pandemic detected, pandemic reporting, on-site emergency quarantine, temporary observation, referral, expert guidance, on-site disinfection and other sections, to ensure clear division of tasks, timely response. After the drill, members of the special task groups summarized the drill on site, discussed on the problems found and put forward suggestions for improvement.

During the Spring Festival, in order to create a happy Chinese New Year atmosphere for international students on campus, the school held a series of events for them to experience the festive culture.


On the 26th day of the twelfth lunar month, a clean-up event was held to welcome the Spring Festival. Volunteers of the International Students wiped clean the windows and doors on the first floor of the dormitory building and pasted Spring Festival couplets and blessing stickers to welcome the Spring Festival.

On the 27th day of the twelfth lunar month, the mask drawing activity for the New Year was held. Ms. Li Liu from the Teaching and Research Office of Chinese Language and Culture for International Students introduced China's Peking Opera Culture in detail for the International Students, and guided them to draw Peking Opera masks on site. Some International Students drew a vivid Wukong or the justicial Bao Zheng, and others drew distinctive masks with their own characteristics.


On the 28th day of the twelfth lunar month, President Zhao Shengtian and Vice President Sun Xiangjun led a team to visit the International Students' dormitory to express their concerns to those who stayed on campus during the Spring Festival. They extended Spring Festival wishes to the students, asked in detail about their study and living conditions during the winter vacation, and instructed them to reasonably arrange their vacation time and take protective measures against the virus.


The activity of Creative Decoration for Dormitory was held on the New Year's Eve. The school distributed Spring Festival couplets, pasters with Fu character, ornaments in the image of tiger, dumplings, medical supplies, etc. to International Students. They pasted Spring Festival couplets, and hung colored ribbons and balloons in their dormitories, which created such a a new year atmosphere.


On the New Year's Eve, a spring festival gala was held. The International Students sang, danced, tasted jiaozi and exchanged festival wishes. A lot of fun activities were held at the gala, creating a happy and peaceful festival atmosphere.

On February 7, the cooking contest for international students was held in the Activity Room of the G3 dormitory building. 28 dishes were received from international students and contestants introduced their dishes in turn. This event provided them with the joy of cooking and promoted the exchange of food culture in various countries.


On February 11, the international students were organized to watch the Beijing Winter Olympics. The attended students all praised the beautiful opening ceremony and cheered for the athletes. Meanwhile, table tennis competition, chess competition and other competitions were held for the international students to experience the Olympic spirit.


On February 20, a photography contest was held for international students to seek beauty moments in life. The contest received nearly 20 photoes, including the beautiful snow scenery of the campus, the street lights on campus at night and the buildings on campus.


On February 25, an essay contest on "My Story with China" was held. It aimed to improve their expression in Chinese and allow them to share with each other what they had seen and heard in China.


With such diversified events, the vacation time of international students in the university was enriched, and they were provided with more opportunities to exchange feelings and to improve their cross-cultural communication ability.
