Recently, BMU’s “Shandong Engineering Research Center of Molecular Medicine of Renal Disease Prevention and Treatment” was approved for construction, according to the list of “2021 Identified Shandong Engineering Research Centers” issued by Shandong Provincial Development and Reform Commission.
The Engineering Research Center is jointly built by the BMU Translational Medicine of Renal Disease Prevention and Treatment Institute, Shandong Luye Pharmaceutical Co., LTD and Yantai Biomedical Health Industry Development Group Co., Ltd.
At present, kidney diseases have become one of the top ten causes of death in the world and the incidence of kidney diseases in China exceeds 10%, while the awareness rate and cure rate are very low. BMU Translational Medicine of Renal Disease Prevention and Treatment Institute is committed to the study of the pathogenesis and prevention and control strategies of acute and chronic renal diseases, and has systematically analyzed the key molecular mechanisms and treatment techniques for early renal disease and disease development.
The approved Engineering Research Center, through profound enterprise-university cooperation, promote the local transformation of basic scientific research findings, focus on early diagnosis of renal disease, the discovery of new targets for therapeutic molecules and drug screening; R&D on tissues, organs and biological artificial device for end-stage renal disease replacement therapy; application software research and development based on the clinical and basic research data for renal diseases. In this way, it will strive to build an influential academic team in the field of renal research, and provide the most advanced diagnosis and treatment strategies for renal disease prevention and treatment.
Shandong Engineering Research Centers play an important role in the innovation system of Shandong, meeting the strategic needs of invigorating the province by science and technology and by construction of modern economic system. They are an innovation consortium, jointly set up by enterprises, universities, research institutes and other enterprises and institutions with strong research and development capabilities and comprehensive strength, which aims to improve the independent innovation ability, enhance the core competitiveness of the “Top Ten” industry, serve national and provincial major strategic tasks and support the major project of transformation of the economic growth driving force.
