BMU Successfully Held the Stem Cell Research Forum

2022-08-02

The BMU Stem Cell Research Forum was successfully held at Binzhou Medical University Hospital (BMU Hospital) on July 31. The forum was intended to actively serve national and local development strategies, enhance academic exchanges in the field of stem cell research, drive the development of scientific research talents, teams, and platforms to new levels, further enhance the scientific research and innovation ability of BMU, promote the integration of basic and clinical studies, and improve the performance of achievement conversion and service for economic and social development. President Zhao Shengtian, Vice President Lyu Changjun, and Zhao Jinggang, Secretary of CPC Committee of the First School of Clinical Medicine of BMU (BMU Hospital) attended the forum. Liu Zhiqiang, Deputy Dean of the First School of Clinical Medicine of BMU (BMU Hospital), hosted the forum.

A Scene of the Forum

President Zhao Shengtian made a special report.

Zhao Shengtian made a special report entitled Stem Cells and Kidney Regeneration at the forum. He noted that stem cell research has been included in national key research and development programs and is also one of the key technologies in the biomedical field. The clinical application research is insufficient, though the basic research of stem cells is booming in China in recent years. Tumor immunotherapy, represented by CAR-T, has strongly driven the development of stem cell therapy in recent years. The immunomodulatory effect of stem cells has been further discovered and is widely used in organ regeneration, tissue damage repair, and other fields. BMU should take anti-aging, stem cells, and regenerative medicine as key directions, especially for the discipline of clinical medicine. BMU has already established the Xu Rongxiang Regenerative Medicine Research Center in collaboration with Mebo Group. Many experts and professors of BMU have been engaged in basic and clinical research of regenerative medicine. He hoped that BMU will produce more scientific research results in the field of stem cell research and apply them to clinical practice.

Vice President Lyu Changjun gave a concluding speech.

In his concluding speech, Lyu Changjun noted that the 21st century is the era of cell therapy and cell derivative therapy, as four Nobel Prizes have been presented to stem cell research. Stem cells are of immense value in clinical applications because they have a strong effect of regeneration and repair. He hoped that BMU Hospital will hasten entity filing and project filing, make best of its advantage to explore modes of industry-university-research collaboration based on the industrial chain and value chain, further promote the conversion of achievements from basic research of stem cells to clinical research, strive to build an innovative value chain from basic research to clinical application, and better drive the construction of a technological innovation highland and medical peak of stem cell research.

According to Zhao Jinggang, BMU Hospital attached great importance to research related to stem cells and worked to facilitate the research by making the establishment of a stem cell research team and government approvals for clinical stem cell research projects priorities of the year. As the forum's organizer, BMU Hospital would make all possible efforts to serve the forum and experts wholeheartedly and work to make the forum a high-level event of academic discussions, communication of practices, and sharing of results.

The participants at the forum represented a wide range of backgrounds, including basic researchers, doctors engaged in clinical applications, and commercial application developers from Shanghai Origincell Technology Group. Through interdisciplinary interaction and integration in the real sense, the forum was to play a very important role in promoting stem cell research from basic research to clinical application. At the forum, Du Yuzhi, manager of the Applied Research Department of Shandong Cord Blood Bank, Prof. Song Xiaodong, Associate Prof. Ji Xiaofei, and Associate Prof. Xiong Yanlian of BMU, Prof. Li Hongbo of the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine of BMU Hospital, and Dr. Wang Hongcai of the Department of Neurology of BMU Hospital gave brilliant lectures. Meng Jun, vice president of Shanghai Origincell Technology Group, and Prof. Dai Jingxing of Southern Medical University gave lectures online.

At the forum, the participants actively learned advanced theories and successful experiences from experts and discussed and explored the essential findings of stem cells and regenerative medicine together. It is expected to further promote the development and improvement of stem cell research in BMU Hospital, contribute to BMU's efforts to a build talent highland and a technological innovation center in the fields of life science and health care, and make greater contributions to well-being of the people in the Yellow River Delta.
