Recently, the ranking of Binzhou Medical University Hospital (BMU Hospital) rose from the 140th to the 99th to be among the top 8% of the 1,342 tertiary public hospitals in China according to the results of tertiary hospital assessment in China in 2020. BMU Hospital was rated A+ for the national monitoring index for the first time. This is another breakthrough achieved by the hospital after it received the result of excellence in the performance assessment of provincial public institutions for high-quality service development in 2021!
In recent years, BMU Hospital continuously improved its functional positioning to improve the quality of medical service, focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of difficult and severe diseases. It has actively cultivated and developed 10 advanced medical technologies, namely artificial intelligence, medical robots, scarless surgery, super-microsurgery, tissue and organ transplantation, organ function support, 3D printing and precise treatment, stem cell and gene therapy, rapid rehabilitation, and early diagnosis and treatment of tumors. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the hospital has set a goal of high-quality development and re-designated the ten core medical technologies, namely medical robot, organ transplantation, precision medicine, gene and stem cell therapy, artificial intelligence, nanomedicine, life support technology, neurobioelectric therapy technology, fetal medicine, and green operating room construction. The hospital is facilitating the construction of six major centers, namely the National Advanced Cerebral Stroke Center, the Provincial Trauma Center, the Provincial Chest Pain Center, the Provincial Critical Maternal Treatment Center, the Provincial Standardized Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Wards, and the Provincial Newborn and Children Treatment Center.
In terms of operational efficiency, BMU Hospital, as a pilot unit of modern hospital management system construction in Shandong Province, actively promotes the construction of a modern hospital management system and drives standardized, lean, and scientific hospital management. For the implementation of an appointment mechanism in all diagnosis and examination services and multidisciplinary comprehensive outpatient services, the hospital has been named an advanced model hospital for improving the appointment-based diagnosis and treatment system for medical services in China. As a result of in-depth efforts of Internet + health care, BMU Hospital successfully passed the evaluation for level-four class-A interconnection capability and won the title of Intelligent Hospital Service Brand in the province.
In terms of sustainable development, BMU Hospital attaches great importance to talents, vigorously implements the strategy of strengthening the hospital with talents, continuously enhances the top-level design and strategic planning for talent-related work, optimizes the policies on talent recruitment, training, evaluation, appointment, and motivation, implements the pooling plan, reserves plan and peak climbing plan for talents, builds an entrepreneurial platform for talents, and stimulates innovation and creativity. BMU Hospital has set up a postdoctoral innovation practice base of Shandong Province and achieved breakthroughs under various talent programs, such as experts enjoying special allowance from the State Council and Qilu Health Talents, since 2020. The Clinical Medicine specialty led by the hospital was selected as a national first-class undergraduate specialty candidate in 2021, and the Pediatrics specialty was selected as a provincial first-class undergraduate specialty candidate in the same year.
BMU Hospital adheres to the concept of serving patients wholeheartedly to improve patient satisfaction. Active implementation of the Three Shortenings initiative has yielded remarkable results with the average waiting time of examination items shortened to 5 minutes. The innovative Internet + nursing service has served more than 300 persons. The hospital has piloted intelligent bedside settlement upon discharge. Among the 283 projects of continuous improvement of quality management, four received the awards of Excellent Project of Continuous Improvement of Hospital Management from the National Health Commission and other awards.
By actively undertaking social responsibility, BMU Hospital has completed nearly 100 major tasks of rescue and medical support. In the prevention and control of COVID-19 in 2020, BMU Hospital sent four medical teams with 25 members to the front line of fighting the epidemic in Hubei. Two persons from BMU Hospital served as head of a provincial medical team and head of a provincial expert group respectively. BMU Hospital successfully cured the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Bincheng District and won the honorary title of Advanced Collective against COVID-19 in Shandong Province. 43 employees of BMU Hospital won national, provincial, and municipal honors, such as National Advanced Individual against COVID-19, National Excellent Communist Party Member, National Advanced Worker, and National Excellent Communist Youth League Member. BMU Hospital has also been commended and highly recognized by the Provincial Health and Health Commission for assistance provided to Qinghai, Xinjiang, Chongqing, and foreign countries.

It yields a list of rankings, which is thought to be the most official, authoritative, and comprehensive list in terms of hospital performance.
