President Zhao Shengtian addresses the new students.
In his speech, Zhao Shengtian first expressed a warm welcome and heartfelt congratulations to the new students from all over the country on behalf of all teachers and students of BMU! He sent sincere greetings to the students and their parents, teachers, relatives, and friends! He introduced the history of BMU since its establishment in three stages, namely self-reliance: working hard against all odds; perseverance: taking on challenges and tasks; carrying forward: keeping pursuance of excellence. BMU has made exploration a component of its blood, passed on the tradition of innovation and creation, stayed committed to the high-quality development of the university and its students as its original aspiration, kept promotion of both ethics and knowledge, facilitated endogenous development, deepened the comprehensive reforms, improved the quality of development, and steadily sped up the building of BMU as a high-level medical university with prominent advantages and distinctive characteristics. He guided the students to explore, know, and read about BMU.
Zhao Shengtian noted that the students are lucky to live in a prosperous era with China and its people and have the best opportunities for development. The students are expected to take on the task of realizing the Second Centenary Goal in their prime time of life. The destiny of youth has always been closely linked with the times. Times are different, but the youth have retained the same genes. He hoped that the students would integrate their journey of life into China's journey of becoming a powerful country from now on, embrace a new era with youth, strive to create a brilliant future, and sing the part of youth in the chorus of the times.
He asked the students, first, to keep pace with the times, cherish the love for our family and country, and paint a picture of youth with dedication to serving the country. We should often introspect our mentality and behavior, firmly keep the pure love for China, bear in mind the big goals of the country, unswervingly listen to the Party's instructions and follow the Party's direction, share the same ambition and destiny with the country and the people, consciously link the realization of individual values with the destiny of the country and the people, integrate the small goals of ourselves into the big blueprint of the Party and the country, and write the most vivid footnotes on our feelings of our families and country. Second, to keep pace with the times, think about the way of learning, and seek perfection and pursue excellence to lay a solid foundation for future life. Medicine is the fastest growing discipline featuring the most innovations. We have witnessed the advent of regenerative medicine, translational medicine, smart medicine, precision medicine, integrated medicine, digital medicine, etc. We should consciously make more commitments, actively take on challenges, jump out of the comfort zone, brave the deep water zone, and explore no man's land. Let learning become the only main line of the university life, present the most beautiful scenes of the university life, and demonstrate what the leading roles of the new medical generation should look like. It is important to know and fall in love with our specialties, devote ourselves to studies, and infer unknown things from known facts. It is necessary to be diligent and strive hard, take persistence as a precious virtue and keep working hard to be successful. We should focus on innovation, lift the veil of ignorance and break through the cocoon of knowledge. New graduate students should withstand temptations, hold the bottom line, master the profound knowledge of their specialties, and be patient and brave to be top talents and academic masters in medical research. Third, to keep pace with the times, cultivate the virtue of a gentleman, and show the true nature of life by being benevolent. Medicine is a science that delivers warmth to people. As medical students, self-cultivation is particularly important. In the future days, we should carefully appreciate and practice the original aspiration of medical professionals to eliminate human suffering and improve health. We should be kind and righteous, and guard the land of probity. We should strive to become medical and health workers who scrupulously abide by medical ethics with boundless love, and make our contributions to protecting people's well-being and promoting the Health China initiative.
