New medical specialties highlight new goals for "Two Advantageous and Two Characteristic Specialties".
The first students majoring in intelligent medical engineering and rehabilitation therapy (a Sino-foreign partnership program) were greeted at the welcome booths. BMU was approved to provide an undergraduate program of Intelligent Medical Engineering according to an announcement released by the Ministry of Education in March. The program, which enrolled 30 undergraduate students in the first year, features a new interdisciplinary specialty based on modern medical and natural science theories, integrating advanced technologies, such as big data, cloud computing, brain science, artificial intelligence, intelligent sensing, and robotics, to study the essence and laws of human life and diseases and explore intelligent diagnosis and treatment through man-machine synergy. Currently, there is a huge demand for professionals of intelligent medical engineering, so the students will find jobs easily, said Wu Guoshuai, academic clerk of the intelligent medical engineering program.
The School of Rehabilitation Medicine started to offer a rehabilitation therapy program (a Sino-foreign partnership program) this year. BMU became the first undergraduate institution in Shandong and the third in China to provide a rehabilitation therapy program under a Sino-foreign joint education partnership. The China-Germany Joint Education program requires studies of 4 years in a 4+0 model, absorbing high-quality educational resources from Germany. All the teaching will be completed at BMU. Upon successful completion, the students will receive undergraduate diplomas and degree certificates from BMU and a bachelor's degree in physical therapy from the German partner.
Moreover, the School of Rehabilitation Medicine successfully passed the first-level accreditation of the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) in August, making BMU the third university in China with the accreditation. This is undoubtedly great news for the freshmen as this means they are to study and practice and seek higher advancement in a university meeting international standards.
Through continuous efforts to improve the performance of disciplines and specialties, BMU has successfully realized a noteworthy advance from One Advantageous and Two Characteristic Specialties to Two Advantageous and Two Characteristic Specialties. In the new era of higher education development, BMU will work to promote the integration and development of new disciplines and specialties by accurately focusing on the frontier developments of new medical specialties. BMU works to promote alignment with international standards and the development of advantageous and characteristic specialties with an international vision, build a high-level medical university with prominent advantages and distinctive characteristics, and create new growth opportunities.
