Recently, the Yantai Engineering Research Center for New Target Anti-inflammatory Immune Drugs proposed by the School of Pharmacy (School of Enology) of Binzhou Medical University (BMU) and the Yantai Engineering Research Center for Digital Stomatology Technology proposed by the Yantai Stomatology Hospital of BMU were approved according to the List of Municipal Engineering Research Centers of Yantai in 2022 released by the Yantai Municipal Development and Reform Commission.
To accommodate the new trends of high-quality development of the biomedical industry in the city, the Yantai Engineering Research Center for New Target Anti-inflammatory Immune Drugs has been founded through in-depth university-industry collaboration to research various diseases closely related to inflammation and immune response while encompassing the deep integration of the innovation chain and the industrial chain. The key R&D activities of the center mainly cover target discovery, drug screening, preclinical research of new drugs, personnel training, and result commercialization. The center is intended to nurture a research team and scientific and technological platform with wide influence in the research of anti-inflammatory and immune drugs and provide a strong platform supporting the development of innovative anti-inflammatory and immune drugs based on new targets.
The Yantai Engineering Research Center for Digital Stomatology Technology has been established in response to major oral diseases, such as dentition defect/loss, malocclusion, and dental pulp disease. Encompassing the key and common technical problems in the research and development of digital oral intelligent software and technology, the center carries out relevant applied research and technology development research by leveraging the latest advances in stomatology, computer science, and bioengineering based on the application of digital oral technology and the construction of a digital oral diagnosis and treatment platform. The main fields of research of the center include three directions. The first one is R&D of digital stomatological technology and materials, and R&D and application of intelligent software for stomatology. The second one is the clinical application of digital precise oral implantation, precise bone increment, and other technology. The third one is the digital virtual simulation of teaching for stomatology.
The municipal engineering research center is an innovation alliance jointly established by enterprises, universities, research institutes, and other organizations with strong research and development capabilities and comprehensive advantages. They are recognized by the Yantai Municipal Development and Reform Commission to meet the strategic needs of strengthening the city through science and technology and building a modern economic system. They are intended to improve the independent innovation capability, enhance core industrial competitiveness, serve major strategic tasks of the country, the province, and the city, and support and ensure the implementation of major projects for transformation to new drivers of development. The municipal engineering research centers are an important part of Yantai's innovation system.
