BMU Successfully Holds the 18th Forum of Deans/Directors of Schools of Medicine and Health Management in China

The 18th Forum of Deans/Directors of Schools of Medicine and Health Management in China was held in Yantai on August 20. The forum was hosted by the forum's organizing committee and Binzhou Medical University (BMU) and organized by the School of Public Health and Management of BMU. This forum was held both online and onsite. 168 well-known domestic experts in health management and related fields from 48 higher education institutions around the country gathered at the forum, ready to greet the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and start a new journey of high-quality development of the health management discipline and innovative cultivation of talents!

Professor Zhao Shengtian, President of BMU, Zhu Shuanglong, Vice Editor-in-Chief of the People's Health Publishing House, and Zhang Lian, Convener of the forum's organizing committee and Professor of Wuhan University, delivered speeches at the opening ceremony of the forum. In his speech, Zhao Shengtian expressed warm congratulations on the forum's successful opening on behalf of BMU and extended a sincere welcome to the leaders, experts, and guests at the event! He introduced the main facts of teaching, scientific research, and discipline construction of BMU and the university's School of Public Health and Management. He noted that the forum is a high-level platform for leaders and experts engaged in medical and health management education in China to jointly deliberate on and discuss the reform and development of medical and health management education. As the organizer, BMU would make all possible efforts to serve the forum, deepen academic exchanges, enhance cooperation in scientific research, jointly start a new journey of high-quality development of the health management discipline and innovative cultivation of talents with partners, and greet the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in practical ways.

On behalf of the People's Health Publishing House, Zhu Shuanglong congratulated the successful opening of the forum and announced the results of the People's Health Cup National Graduation Thesis (Design) Competition for Undergraduates Majoring in Medicine and Health Management on behalf of the forum's organizing committee.

In his speech, Zhang Liang introduced the developments of the health management discipline in recent years and noted that the organizing committee would continue to lead the cultivation of talents in medicine and health management and the development of the discipline according to the principles of cultivation of talents and the national requirements for the discipline's development. He hoped that the participating experts and scholars would discuss the new situation of the health management discipline's development and contribute to the discipline's future development.

After the opening ceremony, the thematic reports made included Understanding and Views on Health Management Discipline by Professor Liang Wannian, Dean of Institute for Healthy China, Tsinghua University, Head of the Expert Group on Epidemic Response of National Health Commission, and Former Director of System Reform Department of National Health Commission; Cultivation and Competency of Innovative Health Management Talents by Professor Huang Yueqin, Vice Chairman of China Disabled Persons' Federation and former Party secretary of Peking University Sixth Hospital; Discussion on the Development of Health Policy and Management Discipline by Professor Chen Wen, Member of the Seventh Discipline Evaluation Group of the Office of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee; Promoting Development of Health Management Discipline with High-quality Scientific Research by Professor Meng Qingyue, Secretary-General of the Teaching Steering Committee of Public Health and Preventive Medicine of the Ministry of Education and Executive Director of PKU China Center for Health Development Studies; Thoughts on Problems, Challenges, Reform and Innovation of Talent Cultivation of Health Management and Discipline Construction by Wu Qunhong, Distinguished Professor of the Changjiang Scholars of the Ministry of Education and Dean of School of Health Management of Harbin Medical University; Thoughts on Reform of Cultivation Mode of Health Management Professionals by Professor Sun Qiang, Executive Vice Dean of the Shandong University School of Public Health.


The experts and scholars spoke freely at the thematic exchanges and group discussion sessions in the afternoon. Professor Tao Hongbing, Deputy Dean of School of Medicine and Health Management, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Professor Qian Dongfu, Dean of School of Health Policy & Management, Nanjing Medical University, shared ideas on Development of the Health and Health Management Discipline and Discussion on Experience in Construction of “Double-10,000 Program” respectively. The experts exchanged views and reached a common understanding in discussions by groups on topics, such as high-quality development of health management discipline, cultivation of innovative talents in health management, and development of health management talents and teachers.

The winners of the 11th People's Health Cup National Graduation Thesis (Design) Competition for Undergraduates Majoring in Medicine and Health Management were unveiled and received awards at the forum. 137 qualified papers were submitted by 50 universities. After careful examination, the organizing committee selected 10 papers for first prize, 20 for second prize, and 30 for third prize, and also 10 winners of the organization award. BMU won one second prize for an excellent thesis and the organization award.
