In recent days, Department of Science and Technology of Shandong Province announced the establishment of Shandong Provincial Natural Science Foundation (Major Basic Research Project) for the year 2022. After preliminary review and defense, the major scientific project Research on Molecular Mechanism of COVID-19 Infection based on Tissue Barriers declared by Professor Zhao Shengtian, as the project director, and Professor Gong Yongfeng as the team leader, was approved for funding of 1.8 million RMB.
This project is led by Binzhou Medical University in collaboration with the scientific research team of Shandong Provincial Hospital Affiliated to Shandong First Medical University and Shandong Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The project, through the establishment of model of gene-modified cells of key structures of tissue barriers and organoid models, as well as tissue-specific genetic engineering mouse models, studies the effect and molecular mechanism of tissue barrier in the damage and repair of important target organs including lung, intestine, kidney, and blood vessels after coronavirus infection in order to realize a major theoretical innovation in the molecular mechanism of coronavirus pathogenesis, and provide a reference for the clinical prevention and treatment of coronavirus infection.
The Natural Science Foundation of Shandong Province (Major Basic Research) project is positioned to provide the basic research’s strategic support, strengthen the implementation of the major project of new and old kinetic energy conversion, and facilitate the province’s scientific and technological innovation.
