1. BMU Studies, Promotes and Implements Spirit of 20th National Congress of CPC
The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was grandly opened in the Great Hall of the People on the morning of October 16. General Secretary Xi Jinping delivered a report to the congress on behalf of the 19th Central Committee of CPC. The Party members and cadres, teachers, students, and medical staff of Binzhou Medical University (BMU) watched or listened to reports on the congress on TV, the Internet, or mobile phones. After the successful conclusion of the 20th National Congress of the CPC, the Party committee of BMU promptly promoted and implemented the spirit of the congress through careful arrangements and tasks at all levels. By opening up a "three-dimensional platform", building a "three-level matrix", enhancing the effect of "three promotions", and adopting the "3+3+3" publicity, the various measures has driven the active study, promotion, and implementation of the spirit of the congress in a V formation across the university.
2. BMU Has Two More National and Five Provincial First-class Undergraduate Specialties
In June, the General Office of the Ministry of Education released the the List of National and Provincial First-class Undergraduate Specialty Development Sites in 2021. The specialties of Clinical Medicine and Stomatology taught at BMU were included in the list as national first-class undergraduate specialty development sites in 2021. Pediatrics, Traditional Chinese Pharmacy, Medical Imaging Technology, Stomatological Technology, and Rehabilitative Physiotherapy were included in the list as provincial first-class undergraduate specialty development sites. Now, BMU has 3 national and 25 provincial first-class undergraduate specialty development sites, accounting for 83.3% of all its undergraduate specialties open for enrollment.
3. BMU Passes Certification by ISPO for Prosthetics and Orthotics Training Programs
On August 19, the Education Committee of the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) officially issued an accreditation certificate to BMU, valid for 3 years (2022-2025). BMU become the third university in China to pass this specialized certification.
4. BMU Authorized for Undergraduate Enrollment in Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan
In November, the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs Office of the Ministry of Education released the Letter on Filing of Enrolling Undergraduate Students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan in 22 Universities. BMU has been authorized to enroll undergraduate students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan in 2023 and thereafter. This marked a substantial breakthrough in BMU's undergraduate student enrollment.
5. A New Leap in BMU's Talent and Team Development
In March, the Education Working Committee of the CPC Committee of Shandong Province and the Education Department of Shandong Province released the Evaluation Results of Talent Work of Party Committee Secretaries of Colleges and Universities in 2021. BMU is rated to be "good". The "good" rating is the top one in the assessment results.
6. BMU's New breakthroughs in Discipline Development
BMU ranks 87th in the Shanghai Ranking 100 Best Chinese Universities by Subject of Medicine as a category-A university. Its clinical medicine discipline is among the top 5‰ of ESI in the world (with the latest ranking being among the top 3.902‰) and among the first-class disciplines and high-level disciplines of Shandong Province. Its pharmacology and toxicology medicine ranked among the top 1% of ESI in the world (with the latest ranking being among the top 86.8%). Its pharmacy discipline is a high-level development discipline in Shandong Province. The disciplines of clinical medicine, basic medicine, and pharmacy are among the top 50% of the Shanghai Ranking Top Chinese Disciplines. Stomatology and nursing have entered the top 50% of the GDI First-Class Disciplines in Universities. It has 5 key disciplines and 2 key laboratories among the approved first-batch key disciplines and laboratories of medicine and health of Shandong province.
7. Highlights in Development of Hospitals Affiliated to BMU
Binzhou Medical University Hospital has been approved as a unit for developing "Benchmark Departments of Party Building Work in Shandong Province" and successfully passed the evaluation as a provincial in-patient department physician training base with excellent results. The hospital's Department of Rehabilitation Medicine has been listed as a key clinical specialty development project by the Provincial Health and Health Commission. The hospital has got approval for National Postdoctoral Research Workstation. The hospital was rated as A+ in the assessment of tertiary public hospitals in China in 2021 after it received the result of excellence in the performance assessment of provincial public institutions for high-quality service development in 2021.
The Medical Laboratory of the Yantai Affiliated Hospital of BMU has passed ISO15189 certification. This marks that the laboratory is recognized by global authoritative organizations and may issue reports recognized by international medical institutions, and its management and technical levels conform to international standards. The hospital's Clinical Psychology Department was approved by the Chinese Medical Association as an "Integrated Diagnosis and Treatment Center of Psychosomatic Medicine". The hospital's projects Early Screening and Early Intervention of Adolescent Scoliosis in Yantai Area and "Accurate Diagnosis and Treatment and Rapid Rehabilitation of Sports Trauma in Yantai City" were approved as pilot projects of physical education and health integration of Shandong Province.
As an achievement of the university-local government cooperation, Binzhou Hospital of TCM, an affiliated hospital of BMU, held a grand opening ceremony for its new site on October 1st. The Spleen and Stomach Department, Oncology Department, Gynecology Department, and Encephalopathy Department of the hospital have been included in the second batch of Qilu advantageous TCM specialty clusters. The hospital became one of the third-batch TCM Culture Publicity and Education Bases in Shandong Province and successfully passed the re-audit as a level-A tertiary TCM hospital.
Yantaishan Hospital, an affiliated hospital of BMU, successfully passed the evaluation as a provincial in-patient department physician training base and won the honorary titles of Advanced Collective of Medical Network Security in Shandong Province and Advanced Collective of Vaccination in Shandong Province. The hospital's Department of Laboratory Medicine has passed the ISO15189 medical laboratory certification. The hospital has completed the level-4 evaluation of electronic medical record application levels and the level-2 evaluation of intelligent service levels.
Yantai Stomatological Hospital of BMU has attained an average patient satisfaction of 96.93% by continuously deepening the public hospital reform. The hospital held a series of activities celebrating its 70th anniversary. Its departments of maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, pediatric stomatology, and laser achieved breakthroughs in the standardized treatment of obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome. Its Dental Implant discipline was approved as a provincial key discipline of medicine and health. It has been named a Provincial Civilized Unit for 10 consecutive years.
8. BMU Named a Civilized Campus in Shandong Province
In March, the Spiritual Civilization Construction Committee of Shandong Province released the Decision on Naming and Commending Provincial Civilized Villages and Towns, Civilized Units, Civilized Communities, and the Third Provincial Civilized Campuses in 2021, BMU appeared on the third list of civilized campuses in Shandong Province. In recent years, BMU has remained true to its original aspiration for education, bravely shouldered the mission of curing diseases, and taken on the fundamental task of cultivating morality and integrity. It carries forward the university's motto of Benevolent and Skillful, keeps improving education in services, classrooms, practices, and psychological education, and comprehensively promotes the spiritual civilization construction on campus along with the creation of civilized campuses as the focal point with remarkable results. Civilization has become an increasingly prominent feature of BMU.
9. As Effort of University-Local Government Cooperation, BMU Binzhou Campus Has Been Constructed and Put into Use
On August 20, the construction of the Binzhou Campus of BMU, as a university-local government cooperation project, was completed and put into use. Nearly one thousand freshmen checked in on the Binzhou campus on August 30. The construction of the Binzhou Campus is an important measure of the People's Government of Binzhou City to actively fulfill the university-local government cooperation agreement, create a new landscape of coordinated development of the university and the city, and realize the concurrent development of higher education and regional development. It is a landmark and pioneering event with great importance in the history of education development in Binzhou and the development of BMU.
10. Fight COVID-19 and Guard Campus Together
BMU has always taken the health and safety of teachers and students as the top priority in dealing with the complicated situation of COVID-19 prevention and control. The university is making all possible efforts to take care of and meet the needs of teachers and students.
