Recently, Binzhou Medical University (BMU) received a letter from the China Center for Promoting SME Cooperation and Development of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), approving BMU's application for joining MIIT's program of Specialized, Refined, Characteristic and Innovative Industrial Institute, which marked the beginning of the establishment of a Specialized, Refined, Characteristic and Innovative Industrial Institute focusing on intelligent rehabilitation aids and a new breakthrough in the BMU's efforts for integrated development of industry and education.
China Center for Promoting SME Cooperation and Development started to admit applications for construction program of Specialized, Refined, Characteristic and Innovative Industrial Institute in September 2022. The program is intended to select universities with solid educational foundations and strong industrial service capabilities to collaborate with enterprises specializing in development of new technologies and key leading enterprises on the key industry chains to build exemplary industry institutes with characteristics based on the advantageous and characteristic specialties offered by universities. Its ultimate goal is to foster students with composite skills who can raise the country's manufacturing power and network capabilities. 508 application-oriented universities across the country have submitted applications proposing over 800 specialties.
Next, the university will take this approval as a new starting point, facilitate tasks related to Industrial University, leverage the characteristics of higher education for the disabled and for rehabilitation, and work with partners in the industry-university-research collaboration, such as ABB Ltd., Robotdalen, Ottobock (China) Industries, Leeds University, and Germany University of Health and Sport. By taking into account the regional, trade and industrial characteristics, BMU is to build an industrial talent training and education carrier integrating scientific research and teaching, practical training, entrepreneurship and employment, social and other services and functions through specialized, refined, characteristic and innovative integration development of of industry and education. It will explore an education model for new intelligent rehabilitation aids and artificial limb orthopedics featuring deep integration of industry and education and establish a new exemplary education system for industry and education integration that can be replicated and promoted with practical effects. It is to cultivate a new ecosystem of collaborative development between application-oriented medical universities and specialized enterprises and make new contributions to serving regional economic and social development and the Healthy China strategy.
