The 2023 Shandong Health and Traditional Chinese Medicine Work Conference was recently held in Jinan. At the conference, signs were presented to national and provincial key specialties, disciplines, and labs. The Rehabilitation Medicine Department of Binzhou Medical University (BMU) Hospital was approved as a National Key Clinical Specialty, the first one in Binzhou City.
The Rehabilitation Medicine Department of BMU Hospital is training bases for severe case rehabilitation and for hand functions of the China Association of Rehabilitation Medicine, a national standardized training base for resident physicians, a core unit of the National Clinical Research Center for Orthopedics, Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, a key clinical specialty in Shandong Province, a key TCM specialty in Shandong Province during the 14th Five Year Plan, and one of the first key medical and health disciplines in Shandong Province. The department has kept improving rehabilitation services and disciplinary development, with a focus on developing characteristic technologies such as precision rehabilitation assessment, precision rehabilitation treatment, neural stimulation and regulation, rehabilitation engineering transformation, neural swallowing assessment and treatment, severe case rehabilitation, and integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine rehabilitation. In the past three years, the department has led or participated in one major project of the Ministry of Science and Technology under the 13th Five Year Plan, 12 provincial and ministerial level and above projects, published 18 SCI papers, led two national level continuing medical education projects, three provincial level continuing medical education projects, and achieved clinical applications of two patents. At present, the department has developed into a first-class rehabilitation medical center in China and a top one in the province, with a distribution pattern of two locations and five hospitals.
The approval of the Rehabilitation Medicine Department of BMU Hospital as a national key clinical specialty was the first in the hospital and even in Binzhou City. Next, BMU Hospital will further consolidate its leading position in disciplinary construction, firmly grasp talent and team building as the key, and comprehensively strengthen disciplinary, individual, and team development. It continuously explores new situations for high-quality development of the hospital and strives to build a modern regional medical center with outstanding advantages and public satisfaction, making new and greater contributions to the construction of Healthy China and Healthy Shandong.
