On the morning of April 27, the signing ceremony for the Preventive Medicine Research Institute and the unveiling ceremony were successfully held at the Yantai Center for Disease Prevention and Control. Zhao Shengtian, President of BMU, and Shen Jian, Vice Mayor of Yantai, delivered speeches respectively. Wang Guangcheng, Vice President of BMU, Qu Yuebin, Deputy Secretary-General of the Yantai Municipal Government, Bao Wei, Party Secretary and Director of the Yantai Municipal Health Commission and Director of the Yantai Municipal Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Wang Hongtao, member of the Leading Party Members’ Group of the Yantai Municipal Health Commission and Party Secretary and Director of the Yantai Center for Disease Prevention and Control, attended the ceremony. During his speech, Zhao Shengtian briefly introduced the basic situation of the university's reform and development in recent years. He pointed out that since the 18th CPC National Congress, the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core has always attached great importance to people's health and elevated the promotion of Healthy China to a national strategy. BMU Preventive Medicine Research Institute is a significant measure implemented by our university and the Yantai Center for Disease Prevention and Control to implement the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress and meet the health needs of the people. It is another fruitful result of deepening cooperation between the university and the local community and integrating industry with education. It is also an important attempt to explore the coordinated development of medical higher education and the preventive medicine profession. He stated that with the guidance and assistance of the CPC Yantai Municipal Committee, the Yantai Municipal Government, and the Yantai Municipal Health Commission, the university will continue to refine its disciplinary and professional characteristics, deepen exchanges and cooperation with the Yantai Center for Disease Control and Prevention, integrate high-quality resources from both sides, and fully leverage their advantages in medicine, education, research, and prevention. Efforts will be made to promote the construction of the Preventive Medicine Research Institute and ensure its implementation. Furthermore, the university will further improve the theoretical and practical teaching system of public health and preventive medicine, advance the development of the disciplines of public health and preventive medicine, and deepen research on the prevention and control of major diseases. These endeavors aim to contribute to the comprehensive promotion of the Healthy China strategy.

At the ceremony, Zhao Shengtian and Shen Jian jointly unveiled the Preventive Medicine Research Institute at BMU. Wang Guangcheng and Wang Hongtao, representing the university and the Yantai Center for Disease Control and Prevention, respectively, signed a cooperative agreement for joint construction. Cao Gaofang, Dean of the School of Public Health and Management, and Qu Yuebin, Deputy Secretary-General of the Yantai Municipal Government, unveiled the workstation of Professor Lyu Peng.

Before the ceremony, Zhao Shengtian and his delegation, accompanied by officials from the Yantai Center for Disease Control and Prevention, visited the historical exhibition room and laboratories of the center. They gained a comprehensive understanding of the center's development history and medical epidemic prevention technologies.

The BMU Preventive Medicine Research Institute, guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, aims to construct a high-level research institute. It will leverage the advantages of both BMU and the Yantai Center for Disease Control and Prevention in the fields of medicine, education, research, and prevention. The institute will coordinate high-quality resources, improve the theoretical and practical teaching system of public health and preventive medicine, conduct fundamental and applied research on major disease prevention and control, promote the development of public health and preventive medicine disciplines, cultivate practical talents, and comprehensively enhance disease prevention and control capabilities and research levels. It will provide strong support for safeguarding the health of the people in the entire city. In the next steps, both sides will further explore and deepen cooperation in innovative mechanisms of cooperation, talent development, joint research, and resource sharing. This will provide strong support for the construction of a high-level medical university at BMU and contribute to enhancing the regional level of public health and preventive medicine.
