From July 13 to 14, the International Conference on Pharmaceutical Innovation and Development 2023 was held in Yantai, sponsored by People’s Government of Shandong Province, co-sponsored by Chinese Pharmaceutical Association, China Pharmaceutical Innovation and Research Development Association, China Society for Drug Regulation and Shandong Administration for Market Regulation, and organized by the People’s Government of Yantai and Shandong Drug Administration. On the afternoon of July 13, the Stem Cell Branch Meeting of the International Conference on Pharmaceutical Innovation and Development 2023 was held in the lecture hall on the sixth floor of the University. Scholars and leaders gathered together to explore key scientific issues in the research field of stem cell and regenerative medicine, deliver the latest cutting-edge progress of stem cell and regenerative medicine, and discuss the current situation and future of basic research and clinical transformation of stem cell, contributing wisdom and strength to the cause of human health.

The Stem Cell Branch was organized by Binzhou Medical University, the People’s Government of Muping District, Rongchang Pharmaceuticals Co. Ltd., Yantai Yaogu Kangyang Development Group, and Yantai Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Center. The Branch Meeting was attended by Professor Ji Weizhi and Professor Bian Xiuwu, Academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Hu Baoyang, Executive Director of Beijing Institute of Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine; Xi Yan, Counselor of People’s Government of Shandong Province and President of Shandong Provincial Medical Association, and Shen Jian, Member of the Standing Committee of the Yantai Municipal Committee of the CPC and Vice Mayor; Che Xianli, Secretary of the CPC BMU Party Committee of the University, President Zhao Shengtian, Sun Xiangjun, Deputy Secretary of the CPC BMU Party Committee of the University, Vice President Lyu Changjun; Sun Hui, Member of the Standing Committee of the Muping District Party Committee of CPC and Deputy Chief Executive of Muping District. At the opening ceremony, Ji Weizhi, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, delivered a speech, introducing the relevant situation of stem cell technology. He hoped that Binzhou Medical University can take stem cell as a key discipline to develop, conduct basic and technical research on stem cell, and become a well-known stem cell research unit at home and abroad as soon as possible.
Che Xianli delivered a speech.
Che Xianli, Secretary of the CPC BMU Party Committee of the University, delivered a speech, introducing the basic situation of the university construction, reform and development, and scientific and technological innovation in recent years. He said the University attached great importance to empowering the development of the biomedical industry with scientific and technological innovation, regarded stem cell and regenerative medicine research as an important direction to strengthen scientific and technological innovation and serve the development of the medical industry, brought together a group of enthusiastic and accomplished research teams, and established a multi-level scientific and technological innovation platform, promoting the stem cell and regenerative medicine research to make new progress. In recent years, the University has established the Institute of Regenerative Medicine and Xu Rongxiang Regenerative Medicine Research Center, received approval of Yantai Key Laboratory of Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine, and participated in or taken the lead in undertaking national key R&D program of China and major projects at ministerial and provincial-level. The research atmosphere was great, the research results continued to emerge in the university, and the scientific and technological innovation of stem cell and regenerative medicine was reaching a new level. He hoped that all experts would continue to care about and support Binzhou Medical University, provide suggestions for the University's scientific and technological innovation, inject new impetus for the technological innovation and development of biomedical science in Yantai and even in Shandong Province, and work together to write a new chapter in the research of stem cells and regenerative medicine.

Shen Jian, Member of the Standing Committee of the Yantai Municipal Committee of the CPC and Vice Mayor, delivered a speech, introducing the development of Yantai's biomedical industry. He said Yantai’s next step was to seize the development opportunities of the stem cell industry, build a solid industrial foundation and foster innovation, utilize enterprises, colleges and universities, and scientific research institutions to conduct platform convergence, talent attraction and industry promotion, optimize the industrial layout, concentrate on the advantages, and set up a innovation highland and industrialization base for stem cell and regenerative medicine technology in Yantai, striving to build an demonstration city of international life science innovation. He hoped that everyone would continue to care about and support Yantai's biomedical technology innovation, and take this conference as an opportunity to brainstorm ideas and gather wisdom to promote the development of Yantai's stem cell and regenerative medicine industries. He sincerely invited experts to join Yantai's biomedical industrial chain partners, share scientific and technological innovation opportunities, and create a new future for industrial development.

Hu Baoyang, Executive Director of Beijing Institute of Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine, delivered a speech. He vividly reviewed the development of the stem cell in the past ten years with the help of finding the way, wading the way, and guiding the way, focusing on the introduction to the basic research, applied basic research and clinical research of stem cell and regenerative medicine as well as the formulation of stem cell standards made by Beijing Institute of Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine.

After the brief opening ceremony, Bian Xiuwu, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, gave a keynote speech. He brought an academic feast on the relationship between blood-tumor barrier and tumor immunity from the four dimensions of tumor angiogenesis and vascular heterogeneity, concept and composition of the blood-tumor barrier (BTB), significance of pathological diagnosis of BTB, and significance of precision treatment targeting BTB.

In the session of experts giving keynote speeches, Zhang Yi, a researcher at the Academy of Military Medical Sciences and Director of Cord Blood Bank, gave a keynote speech of Stem Cell Research Status and Clinical Application; Professor Hua Guoqiang of Fudan University shared his insights on “Application of Patient-derived Organoid Models in Clinical Personalized Therapy and Drug Research”; Professor Li Xiangdong of China Agricultural University introduced “Mechanism of Action of Codable Circular RNAs in Cancer”; Professor Hu Huili of Shandong University shared insights on Organ Function Simulation and Reconstruction - Progress and Challenges in 3D Organoid Application; Professor Liu Yi of the Children's Hospital Affiliated to Shandong University gave a report on Genetic Disease iPS Cells Organoid; Sun Hui, member of the Standing Committee of the Muping District Party Committee of CPC and Deputy Chief Executive of Muping District, made a presentation on the development of the biomedical industry in Muping District.
More than 200 people attended the Branch Meeting, including well-known experts in the medical field, heads of related enterprises and representatives of university teachers and students of related majors. They said this Branch Meeting was full of meaningful materials and they were deeply inspired. In future, they would apply the knowledge, methods and experience learned today to their own scientific research and work, and work together to make new efforts and explorations in promoting the development of China's stem cells and regenerative medicine.
