Recently, the Department of Education of Shandong Province issued a notice announcing the award winners of the 2023 Shandong Chinese Proficiency Competition for College International Students. Binzhou Medical University (BMU) won the Excellent Organization Award as a collective. International students from BMU received one second prize, four third prize, and eight honorable mentions. Liu Zeyun, a teacher from the School of International Studies of BMU won the Excellent Organization Award as an individual. Zhang Yunpeng and Liu Zeyun won the Outstanding Instructor Award.
BMU attached great importance to this event and actively organized international students to prepare for the competition. 18 videos were submitted by BMU. After the expert review, 49 contestants from 20 universities entered the provincial competition in person, including 5 international students from BMU. After intense competition, Bahadur Bahir, an Afghan student from BMU, entered the finals and won the second prize.
The competition was sponsored by the Education Department of Shandong Province and organized by the International Exchange and Cooperation Division of Education Department of Shandong Province, Language Commission Office of Shandong Province, and Shandong Education Television. It was kicked off in September 2023 and aimed to provide a stage for international students to demonstrate their Chinese proficiency and mastery of traditional Chinese cultural talents, deepen the foreign community's understanding of and affection for the Chinese language and culture, and enhance international students' comprehension of Chinese culture.
