The history of the School of Public Health of Binzhou Medical University can be traced back to the original Health Teaching and Research Office established in 1976. In 2007, the School of Health Management was set up, covering the specialty of Statistics. In 2014, it was renamed the School of Public Health and Management, and BMU approved the establishment of the Department of Preventive Medicine in the same period. In the same year, it was approved to grant the professional Master degree of Public Health, and began to receive postgraduate students in Public Health in 2015. In October 2023, the School of Public Health was independently established on the basis of the Department of Preventive Medicine.


There are altogether 38 faculty members in the School of Public Health, including 28 full-time teachers, of which 85.71% have doctoral degrees. Among all faculty members, 7 are professors, 11 are associate professors, and 24 have doctoral degrees. At present, the School enjoys many famous experts in the field of public health and public administration, such as Zou Fei, Sun Qiang, Tu Dongsheng and Zhang Ping, who are appointed as our guest professors. So far, a high-quality faculty team with noble ethics, strong professional skills, reasonable structure as well as vigor and vitality has been preliminarily formed.


At present, the School contains two undergraduate programs of Preventive Medicine and Statistics, and master's degree conferring discipline of Public Health, mainly intended to cultivate applied talents in the fields of public health and disease prevention, health statistics and information consulting. Also, both the Preventive Medicine and Statistics are approved as key programs to be nurtured in the Shandong Distinctive and Famous Universities for Applied Talents Training Project and are approved to be nurtured as first-class program of Shandong Province. It has four teaching and research offices, including Health Statistics, Epidemiology, Nutrition and Food Hygiene, Occupational and Environmental Hygiene, together with Experiment and Teaching Center for Public Health and Statistics Laboratory, which are all testaments to its abundant teaching resources and sound environment for learning. There are two provincial-level scientific and technological innovation platforms, namely, Ecological Health Research Institute of the Yellow River Basin and Environment and Health Collaborative Innovation Center of the Yellow River Basin, together with two municipal characteristic centers, Binzhou Preventive Medicine Research Center and Yantai Preventive Medicine Research Institute. 


The school insists on fostering virtue through education, implementing the whole-process education on all fronts through the class tutorial system and targeted improvement project, etc. The best practice therein has been reported by China Education Daily and China Youth Daily. It attaches great importance to the cultivation of practical ability of students, and has won numerous awards in the Market Research Analysis of National College Students and other Competitions on Analysis, with the proportion and level of awards ranking high among its counterparts. Currently, there are 734 undergraduates and 106 postgraduate students. Every year, nearly half of the undergraduates are admitted to such domestic universities as Peking University, Renmin University of China, Nanjing University, Chinese Academy of Sciences and other foreign universities or research institutions. The employment rate remains above 95%. A number of outstanding alumni have been emerging. 


Public health is the cornerstone of a healthy China. The School will strive to explore a new development pattern to achieve high-quality development of public health education and accelerate the cultivation of inter-disciplinary and comprehensive talents in the field of public health. We hope to make greater contributions to building a strong public health system, effectively responding to major infectious diseases, so as to safeguard people's health and promote high-quality development of public health.
