The School of Health Management of Binzhou Medical University was established in 2007, originated from the former Office of Information Management and Information System set up in 2002. It mainly aims to cultivate applied professionals in the fields of health statistics and information consulting, health management and health service, information management and system analysis.
There are 60 faculty members, including 47 full-time teachers, 12 professors and 23 associate professors, among which 20 teachers have doctoral degrees. The School enjoys one National Renowned Teacher, one chief expert of provincial key disciplines, one young and middle-aged expert with outstanding contributions at provincial level, one high-level talent in Shandong Province, and one with high-end innovation talent. Renowned experts in the field of public administration and health management, such as Wu Qunhong, Wang Zongjun and Sun Qiang, are hired as our guest professors. The School has preliminarily formed a high-quality faculty team with noble ethics, strong professional skills, reasonable structure as well as vigor and vitality.
The School has three undergraduate programs, including Information Management and Information System, Public Affairs Management and Health Service and Management. Among them, Information Management and Information system is a provincial distinctive program in Shandong Province. Information Management and Information system, together with the Public Affairs Management are approved to be first-class programs of Shandong Province and to be dual-degree education programs by Shandong Department of Education. Health Service and Management is among the first batch of heath service programs in China. Besides, there are three master's degree conferring programs: professional degrees in Public Health (Health Service Management Direction) and Public Administration and an academic degree in Medical Informatics.
There are teaching and research offices of Information Management, Mathematics, Computer Science and Technology, Social Medicine and Health Management, Health Service and Management, etc. Besides, the School enjoys a Computer Experiment Teaching Center, a Public Management Laboratory, a Health Management and Policy Research Center and an Institute of Health Engineering Management. It also provides support for two regional characteristic research institutes, namely, Yantai Medical Security Research Institute and Institute of Medical and Health Industry.
In recent years, it has undertaken 21 projects at ministerial and provincial level, including NSFC projects, SSFC projects and the Humanities and Social Sciences Project of the Ministry of Education. What’s more, the School has won six provincial awards including the Award to Outstanding Achievement in Social Sciences of Shandong Province. More than 10 high-level papers have been published in well-known journals at home and abroad. It actively carries out social services and has completed 16 entrusted research and school-local co-construction projects at provincial and municipal level. Furthermore, ten reports on decision-making consulting have been approved by the provincial and municipal leaders or adopted by the provincial and municipal government departments for work planning.
Currently, the School has 1408 students, including 42 postgraduate students. Among them, nearly 30% of the undergraduates are admitted to high-level Chinese universities, such as Peking University, Renmin University of China, Nanjing University, Chinese Academy of Sciences and other renowned foreign universities or research institution in American, Britain and Australia. The employment rate remains above 95% and a number of outstanding alumni have been emerging.
Moving forward, the School of Health Management will cater for the social needs, focus on innovating the model of talent cultivation, and adhere to the planning from a high point and high-quality development. It will strive to introduce and gather high-level faculties for health management and put emphasis on developing students’ professional ability and innovative spirit, so as to cultivate applied and inter-disciplinary talents in health management who meet the needs of health fields.
