ATSE fellows Rob Lewis and Zhang Wei visit BMU

On the morning of August 16, Australian Academy of Technological Sciences & Engineering (ATSE) fellows Rob Lewis and Zhang Wei visited Binzhou Medical University (BMU). Wang Shuguang, Vice President of BMU met with the guests in the conference room.

After extending a cordial welcome to Robert Lewis and Zhang Wei and their delegation on behalf of BMU, Wang Shuguang briefed the guests on the university's history, strengths, talent development, and international cooperation efforts. Subsequent discussions focused on fostering academic collaboration, joint talent development initiatives, and robust industry-university-research partnerships. The two sides reached a consensus on various matters and pledged to deepen their collaborative efforts, precisely align their respective strengths and needs, and ultimately achieve win-win results.

Following the meeting, Rob Lewis delivered an engaging lecture entitled China-Australia Blue BioIndustry Partnership: History, Opportunities and Challenges Drawing on his extensive research experience, Lewis provided a captivating presentation on Australia's marine economy, its current state, and the collaborative prospects between China and Australia in this domain. During the interactive session that followed, Lewis assiduously responded to questions from the audience, engaging in in-depth discussions on various aspects of the China-Australia cooperation in the ocean economy. The participants got inspired in an atmosphere replete with enthusiasm.


The meeting was attended by key officials from BMU's Department of Science and Technology (Science and Technology Achievements Transformation Center), International Cooperation and Exchanges Office, and School of Public Health.


Rob Lewis is a senior fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences & Engineering (ATSE). He also serves as Director of Science Without Bounds Pty Ltd, Board Chairman of the Australian Genome Research Facility Pty Ltd, and Honorary Fellow at the South Australian Research and Development Institute.


Zhang Wei is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences & Engineering (ATSE), Matthew Flinders Distinguished Professor at College of Medicine and Public Health in the Flinders University, and research director and chief scientist of the Marine Bioproducts Cooperative Research Center of Australia.
