On December 2nd, the fourth Chinese medical team to Kiribati, assembled entirely from BMU Yantai Affiliated Hospital of Shandong Province, departed from Jinan to commence a 372-day medical assistance mission.

This marks the first entire assembling medical team deployment from BMU Yantai Affiliated Hospital. The hospital began to undertake national foreign aid medical missions from 2023 and had dispatched seven personnel across three teams. The fourth medical team is comprised of Dr. Liu Xiu, Director of Ultrasound Medicine Department and team leader, along with Dr. Mu Shaojiao from Gastroenterology, Dr. Lian Huixiu from Medical Imaging, Dr. Qin Changsheng from Anesthesiology, and Dr. Qu Tianyi from Emergency Medicine. The team will uphold the foreign aid medical teams spirit of fearlessness in face of hardship, dedication to service, commitment to saving lives, and boundless great love. Building upon previous work, they will expeditiously acclimate to the local environment, give full play to their expertise, promote understanding, and collaborate with Kiribati medical personnel to advance healthcare services, thereby contributing to the development of a global health community and strengthening Sino-Kiribati friendship.
Send-off meeting
Prior to departure, farewell ceremonies were held by the Provincial Health Commission on December 1st and BMU Yantai Affiliated Hospital on November 27th. The events were attended by relevant leadership from the Provincial Health Commission, Provincial Center for Health Science Technology and Talent Development, BMU Yantai Affiliated Hospital, and members of the fourth medical team to Kiribati.
